Everything Happens For a Reason
It’s that cliche saying that you always here. “Don’t worry too much, it’s happening for a reason.” You want to either skip out of the conversation or look at the person saying it and scream THEN WHAT THE HELL IS THE REASON?! We’ve all been there, I know I have at least. It has taken a lot of understanding to really see the bigger picture in every circumstance that I encounter. We’re going to break down the phrase and dig in deep to what I like to call the “butterfly effect.”
Last year I sat on the patio of my best friends apartment looking at this tree. She was going through a learning lesson and needed clarification on what she should do. I used that dreaded line, “Well honey, remember everything happens for a reason.” However, I did not leave it just at that. I explain to her by using this tree. There was a point in time when this tree was just a seed. It was planted, and it had no idea of the potential it had. As this tree began to grow it endured cold weather, freezing temperatures at that. This tree as even lived through temperatures over the 100’s, and rains that could flood out fields.
Let’s break it down into a situation.
Everything happens for a reason
You are faced with multiple challenges at once. You just lost your job, you have a family to support. At the same time of losing your job you find out that your parent is ill. You are overwhelmed with stress and anxiety and in the same breath you get the phone call from your child’s teacher that he/she has been acting out in class. You are at your wits end. This is one of those times that you want to scream IF EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON, THEN WHAT IS IT?!?!
There was a point in time when this tree was just a seed: The seed for you is the overwhelming sense of emotion. It is the feelings of helplessness, and the prayers that things will easy up. After all a seed alone is pretty helpless, right?
As this tree began to grow it endured cold weather freezing temperatures at that. You know the point when you’re so fed up that you feel like you are becoming cold and bitter to everybody and everything around you? You seem to be “frozen” in time where nothing will work itself out fast enough? Fact: The seed continued to grow, and you are continuing to grow in this hard time.
This tree as even lived through temperatures over the 100’s. Heat. We’ve all felt it. When we know someone either is feeling a negative emotion towards us or we are on a time crunch to get something done. Refer to the bottom of this article to read my favorite quote on working under pressure.
Of course you have the rains that could flood out fields. This would represent the tears and heartache that you feel while focusing on all of those problems at once. What does rain do for seeds? Yep, it helps them grow.
In this breakdown I didn’t touch on the situations themselves, I focused on the feels surrounding the situations. I bet you’re wondering what does all of this mean? With all of those emotions it only helps you become bigger, stronger. Without the different weather you wouldn’t be able to become the strong, smart, beautiful, intelligent human being that you are and are continuing to become every single day.
It is amazing to think everything that the tree has endured and the roots only grew stronger and deeper. Without all of those weather conditions it would not have grown. Repeat it with me, even stronger now because you understand:
Everything happens for a reason.
What situation have you gone through that you now understand was designed to help you become a stronger individual. Did it open the door for bigger and better opportunities in your life? Are you still “stuck” in trying to understand the bigger picture? Comment below, I’d love to hear from you!
